New Zealand Comics Weekend
From Comics.org.nz
The first of these in 2005 was a milestone in the history of New Zealand comics, as it was the first time the local comics community came together at an event for local comics created by local comic creators. Now an annual festival of comics, it is held in Wellington.

The 2nd Annual 2006 NZ INDEPENDENT COMICS FESTIVAL - 3 days of comics and the Eric Awards
The New Zealand Independent Comics Festival has happened again in 2006 on the 28th-30th April at the Ron Barber Gallery, 91 Aro Street in Wellington. It featured an exhibition of seminal NZ Comic Art, from the 60s to now, curated by Tim Bollinger (with Trace Hodgson, Eric Resetar, Robert Scott and others), talks by Dylan Horrocks and Darren Schroeder, and the 2006 Eric Awards. It was an amazing weekend and as Tim Bollinger sais a real weekend of firsts for the NZ comics scene. It was an amazing time and we sold a huge amount of comics and zines to Wellington art lovers.
The festival ran for three days and had comics from all over NZ and even some of our Australian independants, thanks to to the wonderful Tim Danko. Eric Resetar himself was there and gave an air of real specialness to the whole weekend. Thanks to everyone who participated in person or spirit.

We had a great list of judges this year who all really put in the extra work to make the decisions particularly meaningful. A special thanks to Draw, Moira Clunie and Dylan Horrocks for their judging in the final hours and thanks to Arthur Cantrill, Bob Scott, Burton Silver and Joe Sacco for their roles as judges in the lead up to the awards.
WHAT A WONDERFUL TIME WE HAD! START GETTING READY FOR NEXT YEAR!
